The New-York based JetBlue Airways has announced plans to continue its international expansion with a new service this fall to Barbados, once it gets approval. It will also begin new service to Jamaica on May 21.

The airline wants to begin a daily nonstop service year-round, between the Grantley Adams International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, on October 1st.

Flights on the 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft which will service the route are expected to go on sale in June.

Barbados’ Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy has welcomed the planned JetBlue service.

“The carrier has an excellent reputation in the industry and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership,” he said. “The additional service fits in perfectly with Government’s strategy of increasing our levels of business out the US market.”

JetBlue’s vice president of network planning, Scott Laurence, said the airline was proud to offer more choice to its customers, through the new flight.

“We look forward to welcoming New Yorkers and Barbadians alike to JetBlue with low fares and the promise of a great travel experience. Whether you’re headed on holiday or reconnecting with family and friends, JetBlue gets you there in style and comfort, and without breaking the bank.”

JetBlue currently serves 53 cities with 600 daily flights.
