ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, April 23, 2009 – A day after LIAT’s Chief Executive officer (CEO) parted ways with the Antigua-based airline, one of the company’s Board members has been put in charge of the day to day operations.

Brian Challenger will perform the role carried out by Mark Darby until a new boss is appointed.

The news came yesterday, a day after LIAT announced Darby’s departure.

According to LIAT’s Chairman Dr Jean Holder, Challenger has had a long working relationship with the company. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors since 2006 and has been involved in LIAT’s operations over the last 10 years in various capacities.

“Working from LIAT’s head office in Antigua, Mr. Challenger will ensure continuity and will see to the smooth operation of the company as the Board continues the process of identifying and putting in place a new Chief Executive Officer,” Dr Holder said.

He added that the changes at the top of LIAT’s management would not affect operations.

“We would like to assure our customers, suppliers, employees and the public at large that despite the change in the company’s leadership, our focus and mission remain the same – to transform LIAT into a profitable carrier, dedicated to high quality customer service,” the Chairman said.

LIAT on Tuesday announced “the conclusion of the Company’s contractual relationship” with Darby in a brief pres statement that did not indicate whether the decision not to renew his contract was made by him, the airline, or if it was a mutual decision.
